Thought, Hope and Experience on the Presidential Elections
By Daniel Knight
The day after the 2008 presidential election, I woke up with these feelings-that things in the country were going to change as
Barrack Obama stated in the presidential debate with John Mc Caine.
I really was impressed with how Obama stayed calm the whole time and at a level that caught other people’s attention and stayed humble the whole time. I see him as humble because every argument that was brought up against him his facial expressions didn’t show any sign of strain or stress. When I saw this; that is a person that I want to elect as my president!
A candidate I don’t want to see as my president is somebody who is trying to crush other people’s ego or character just because they make a few mistakes. Mistakes don’t necessarily mean that you’re a bad person; they just mean that you are a person with imperfections. Mistakes just inform us that if we do something that doesn’t work out, we don’t look back we keeping moving forward, such as Thomas Edison’s invention with the light bulb. He failed but he didn’t give up. His mistakes gave him other ideas that made him successful.
I think everybody should live his or her life on this keynote. I feel good to know there is a African American in office because it is only fair that everybody gets his or her chance to prove his or her loyalty to this country no matter what color he or she is. I am an African American; President-Elect Obama gives me hope for my own future because I never thought I was good enough. I grew up in a family of seven, there are three sisters plus three brothers and me. My mother did the best she could with what she had, but I still had no hope because I did not have what other kids had-such as sneakers and brand name clothes.
Getting back to our new president, I see he wants to do things the right way and not just talk about what he is going to do for this country. There are not a lot of jobs. There are hopeless teenagers that don’t see a brighter future. Obama is promising things like better jobs and opportunities. I am inspired by his demeanor. His growing up with out a father, and where he is now, makes me have hope for my own life.
