Book Review NightJohn by Gary Paulson

NightJohn was about slavery in the USA. The problem that one slave went through in her daily life.
My favorite part of the book was when Sarney got free from the bad people. One of the most memorable scenes in story was when NightJohn took care of Sarney and taught her numbers, reading and how to keep herself safe. The thing I learned most from this book is that slavery was not right then and its not right now. This story makes me want to learn more about slavery, where it began and when is it going to end!

Garden Project

My name is Taylor.I am 17 years old and I attend GED classes at The Learning Place. I attend a lot of the workshops held by the Federal Credit Union. The workshops I went to so far are Women in Business, marketing, business planning, and business finance. The workshops are basically for women owning or going to own their own business. And learning about having your own.
I really have learned a lot from attending the workshops. And enjoyed attending them.

I'm also attending a garden project. My group and I in the garden project are working in the front yard of The Learning Place. I have learned so much about gardening. I have learned about native plants that attract bees, birds and butterflies. The plants we are growing in the front yard are sunflowers, Zinnias, cosmos, Salvia, marigolds, and many many more plants and flowers. We are also putting down and spreading mulch. Also inside The Learning Place we are planting seeds in little containers and leaving them in front of a big window to get lots of sun. Other groups are working on the side yard and the back yard. They are planting other interesting plants like vegetables, including tomatoes and lots more. I can't wait until we are finished we are going to have fun selling the produce and flowers. The Learning Place is going to look awesome.

I have learned a lot from attending the Learning Place and the garden project and the workshops. This year has been a fun year. Hope you enjoyed reading this.

Always,

Taylor

P.S. Also another little project, we painted a room and put furniture in it for a women's hangout space basically. It is very relaxing and the colors look good and the furniture looks awesome and it's a very comfortable room.

My Life Struggle's And My Achievements

I came from a broken home in and out of group home's.
Trying my hardest to my daily need's To be meet the system
Let me go as I got to old to be in there returned home to my mother
I did not like the living arrangements and left home at 16 years old hade my first child at 17 years old by the age of 25 I hade 5 children trying my hardest to provide for them and make sure they hade what they needed but it is hard to make sure they have them with out a job and a half education so I looked back and said to my self its time to do what I have to make my life change so now that I have gone back to get my ged to get my ged
To get a job I feel a little better about my self and thats what I want for my children to finish school and walk on stage to get there high school diploma in stead of a ged but all my eforts and encouragement and a little push from Mrs. Betty Graham I don't think I would be getting my ged its the best thing that could have happened to me I am showing my children if the can do it then there mother can do it to. I just want to say thank you to Mrs. Graham for being the angel that she is to me and my family She held a class failer free reading program and my youngest child is a exclent reader and my oldest who is 17 years old loves Miss graham dearly

My family is very loving and supporting. My dad is one of my suppporting team members, my mom and wife are two others that support me in everything I do. I'm just a few steps away from completing my main goal and that's getting my ged I'm glad. My family is proud of me to just because I'm not far away from getting my ged.
My dreams are starting to come true everyday because I'm starting to learn more and more everyday about things I've never knew about like political issues and personal issues. Me and my family have been working toward personal best in all levels because if we don't work hard we won't get anywhere in if we don't push our selfs to the limit and at times like struggle but not for long. When we are struggling we push one another to stride for personal best in every situation we help each other to maximum limit cuase with out family we wouldn't know how to push forward.

Tasmanian Devils

Tasmanian Devils Start to Breed at Younger Ages 10-4-08

Cancer is shortening the lives of tasmanian devils. In response, the animals have begun breeding at younger ages.
Humans die everyday from cancer. They are in trouble.
Cancer is killing the furry animals at an early life. The devils are giving birth at a younger age. They are small creatures. They also have very bad tempers.
If you make them mad or get them upset you better watch out for what they might do.
Since 1996, a type of cancer has been killing many devils. It causes death between the ages of 2 and 3. If they live to be about 25 years old.

From TLP's Book Club

NightJohn

NightJohn was about a man teacher who explained to Sarny that he gave up his freedom. My favorite part of the book was when they taught the people in the school down in the woods. A memorable scene in NightJohn was when they beat Alice. From this book I learned that back in the old days this was how it was for people. This book makes me want to learn more about history, people, and the black race.

Special People

Those who bring sunshine,
Those who bring cheer,
Those who make everyday
Special all year...
Those who give help,
Understanding,and love
Are blessings on earth...
For they're blessed from above.
Those are special people.

Garden Project

In the project we plan to plant some flowers, vegetables and more. We will be gathering a lot of information from people who are experts. There will be disadvantages and advantages.

The Learning Place staff came up with the project. It was supposed to be for women, but they gave men a chance to participate in the project too. The participants came up with their plans to put students into three groups. Each group had different plans to do. We were divided into three groups as follow:

Group A Growing Flowers
Group B Growing Vegetables
Group C Growing Flowers and Vegetables

I organized them in A,B, and C. That is my own way to arrange them. In my group we were talking about what type of flowers we’re going to grow, still to be determined. We came up with some disadvantages and advantages.

The disadvantages that we will face are limited packing area and new businesses selling plants will appear, and compete with us. The advantages are that we will get fresh organic food locally grown and be within walking distance of the customers.

In my experience, what I am going to gain from this project. First of all I never grew flowers before. I think it will be beneficial for the plans will provide products for the neighborhood. Another benefit for our neighbors will enjoy fresh products and natural vegetables which is good for them.

Going to School

The name of this place where the kids are going to: Corcoran High School.
This is there first day of classes, September 6th 2008 on a Monday morning.
As the students enter the first day it's kind of strange at first but it don't take them verylong to make new friends. Some will get along and some don't. It all depends what classes there taking and what subjects.
There teacher will be like Rosey's tutor, Bobbi G. a very respectful person and nice to be with to teach the students because I know what it was like for me to have an awsome teacher and a friend.
The students will feel tired after the first day, but stay tune for the rest of the weekdays. If they want to have good grades then they got to study hard for it and pay attention. Good luck to each and everyone of you. Oh, by the way, I want my tutoe Bobbi G. back, it's not the same good times that her and I had when we were in class.

From her good student and friend,
Rosebud

God the Creator of the World by Janell Turner

This world belongs to God.
God is the father of our world.
God created this world which we live in.
He didn't ask for a hand.
God loves all of us in this world.
God wants us to love "Him" back.
God is a mighty, mighty man in this land.
For us he already knows His plan.
When we plan we should always include God because he is the Almighty man.
We should be His greatest fan.
Let us love Jesus as much as we can,
Because He will always be there to give us His helping hand.
Let us all get to know the Man!

My First Poem

Angel of Light

Oh! So bright, means something must be right,
If you stay tight.
So why not take the flight?
Enjoy your life and you can be a light,
And shine bright.
But if you don't take flight, you may never
Know I'm right!

(I'm not a poet)
